Victor Brauner (1903-1966) - an artist close to the Dadaists and then the Surrealists - lived in Sainte-Marguerite (Vasterival) - from 1961 to 1966 - at l'Athanor (the name of the alchemists' crucible).

To mark the 50th anniversary of his death, Sainte-Marguerite paid tribute to him with an exhibition from August 24 to 28. The event culminated in two lectures: one by Mihaela Petrov, art historian and curator of the exhibition, the other by Didier Semin, Director of Studies at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-arts de Paris and author of a monograph on the artist.
